This course enables students to develop their skills, understanding and knowledge required to take up positions working with children 0-12 years as assistants in a number of settings.

These settings may include Long Daycare, Pre-School, Occasional Care and Family Daycare.

The Certificate is competency based and provides a nationally recognised qualification.

Length of course is two days per week for 20 weeks.

The course consists of the following units of competency:

• CHCPR3C  - Develop an understanding of Children's interests & developmental needs
  
  
• CHCPR1C   -  Deliverservices / activities to stimulate children's development & enhance their leisure
  
  
• CHCORG3B  - Participate in the work environment
  
  
• CHCOHS301A  - Participate in workplace safety procedures
  
  
• CHCCN5C  - Care for babies
  
  
• CHCFC1C  -  Support the development of children in the service
  
  
• CHCCN2C  - Care for children
  
  
• CHCIC1C  -  Interact effectively with children
  
  
• CHCCN1D  - Ensure children's health & safety
  
  
• CHCCS301A  -  Work within a legal & ethical framework
  
  
• CHCCHILD1C  -  Identify & respond to children & young people at risk
  
  
• CHCCN4D  -  Respond to illness, accidents & emergencies
  
  
• CHCRF1C   -  Work effectively with families in caring for their child
  
  
• CHCCN3C   -  Prepare nutritionally balanced food in a safe and hygienic manner
  
  
• HLTFA2A   - First Aid Level 2

Competency must be achieved for each unit.

Assessments will be conducted in a variety of ways, including:

• Written reports/assignments
• Workplace simulations
• Class activities
• Review sheets
• Role play
• Practical workplace placement (4 weeks)
